Abstract:
Objective To evaluate the presence of chlamydial trachomatis(CT) infection in the lower and upper genital tract of women with ectopic pregnancy(EP).Methods: A prospective study of 40 women with EP hospitalized in the Dept.of Gynaecology,Guangzhou Maternal and Infant Hospital, and 30 age matched normally pregnant women served as controls for detecting CT of cervix and fallopian tube by polymerase chain reaction(PCR) and enzyme immunoassay(EIA).Results: The prevalence of CT in the women with EP was significantly higher than that in controls(37.8% vs 13.3%,P<0.05).CT in the cervical samples were detected at a higher percentage than that in tubal samples(37.5% vs 21.7%,P<0.05).Conclusions: The study indicates an association between CT infection and EP when compared with women with normal pregnancies.CT infection in the tubes is identified by using PCR technique, but there is no significant difference between the tube and cervix.
