Abstract:
Although relatively rare, patients with neuromuscular disease do present for anaesthesia and intensive care management. Although a large number of neuromuscular diseases exist, general anaesthetists or intensive care consultants are most likely to encounter the more common conditions such as motor neurone disease, Guillain–Barré syndrome, myasthenia gravis and the muscular dystrophies. This article outlines the management of these conditions.
