Abstract:Objective To investigate the effects of experiential health education in community-dwelling hypertension patients. Methods With convenience sampling method, totally 242 patients were randomly divided into intervention group(n=118) with experiential health education and control group(n=124) with conventional health education on hypertension. Differences in self-care activities and knowledge of stroke between the two groups before and after health education were compared. Results Before the intervention, there was no statistical significance in terms of patient's compliance and knowledge of stroke in the two groups (P>0.05). The score of medication compliance, smoke and alcohol management behavior and life management behavior and the total score of the intervention group were much higher than those in the control group, and the differences were statistically significant(P<0.05). Knowledge on healthy life style, medication, risk factors, and warning signals and the total score in the intervention group at the end of 3-month intervention were much higher than those in the control group (P<0.05). Conclusion Experiential health education is effective for improving patient compliance and stroke knowledge.
Keywords:hypertension  experiential health education  stroke  treatment compliance
