| Abstract: | Two hundred three nurses involved in the hospital care of women and their newborn completed a pre-test survey associated with a telephone conference in support of the breastfeeding mother. Inconsistencies among the majority of nurses in their ability to support the breastfeeding women and understand the mechanisms of successful breastfeeding were demonstrated. Results of the survey are presented as well as implications for education of nurses who care for the childbearing family. |
