Study on the correlation of serum peroxidoreductase 1 and brain-derived neurotrophic factor with symptoms of depression and anxiety in patients with irritable bowel syndrome

Objective To investigate the correlation between serum peroxidoreductase 1 and brain-derived neurotrophic factor and symptoms of depression and anxiety in patients with irritable bowel syndrome(IBS).Methods One hundred and fifty patients with chronic diarrhea in the outpatient Department of Gastroenterology,Shuguang Hospital Affiliated to Shanghai University of Traditional Chinese Medicine from February 2020 to March 2021 were retrospectively selected;all patients were divided into 80 cases of IBS(IBS group)and 70 cases of non-IBS(non-IBS group);detection of serum peroxidoreductase 1(PRDX1)levels,brain-derived neurotrophic factor(BDNF)levels,self-rating depression scale(SDS)and self-rating anxiety scale(SAS)in patients with intestinal diseases's scoring situation.Results The level of serum PRDX1 in the IBS group was(13.47±4.26)ng/L,which was higher than that in the non-IBS group[(8.56±2.21)ng/L],and the level of serum BDNF was(947.21±131.64)pg/mL,which was lower than that in the non-IBS group[(1425.67±136.12)pg/mL],the differences were statistically significant(P<0.05).There was a correlation between the levels of PRDX1 and BDNF in IBS patients and depression and anxiety symptoms(P<0.05);Pearson conducted a correlation analysis.After the analysis,it was found that the PRDX1 and BDNF concentrations in IBS patients were correlated with depression and anxiety symptoms,and depression(r=0.276,P<0.001;r=0.322,P<0.001),irritability(r=0.314,P<0.001;r=0.367,P<0.009),panic(r=0.256,P<0.005;r=0.247,P<0.001),anxiety(r=0.229,P<0.011;r=0.342,P<0.012)the score was positively correlated.Conclusion The high expression of serum PRDX1 and the low expression of serum BDNF in IBS patients are associated with depression and anxiety symptoms,and may become biomarkers and targets in the diagnosis and treatment of IBS.
