Oxygen uptake and blood lactate relationship in subjects of vastly different somatotype

Summary The relationship between oxygen uptake and blood lactate was studied in two human, male, non-athletic subjects of similar age and height but of vastly different somatotype. The obese subject, (weight 109 kg; percent of body fat 30) exhibited a lower level of efficiency during work on a motor driven treadmill (12 km/h, grade + 4%) than the lean subject (weight 60 kg; per cent of body fat 14).On leave, until September 1963, from the University of Massachusetts, Amherst, Massachusetts.
