Abstract: | This patient with septicemia caused by Aeromonas hydrophila demonstrates clinical features similar to those of patients in previous reports. Particularly interesting were the skin lesions that appeared at the time of onset of septicemia. It has been shown that these bacteria have particular affinity for muscle tissue, causing necrosis and intense inflammation (3, 5). Presumptive identification of this species may be accomplished if the oxidase test is routinely performed along with additional physiologic and biochemical tests (3, 7). However, further taxonomic clarification is needed for members of this genus. |
