Abstract: | Reactive arthritis constitutes a group of inflammatory arthritides 2 to 4 weeks after an extra-articular infection. HLA-B27 is more frequent in reactive arthritis, in 50 to 80% of the patients. The arthritis is painful and oligo- or polyarticular. The duration of illness ranges from several months to a chronic state. The inflammatory manifestation of reactive arthritis requires the administration of non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs. In some disease modifying drugs like Sulfasalazin are necessary. Besides medical treatment physical therapy plays an important role. The course of the disease varies: most children experience only a single episode of monarthritis, others suffer from a recurrent or chronic form. In contrast to the juvenile idiopathic arthritis radiological destructive findings less commonly occur. |
