Practice of Treatment for a Child with Chemotherapy-Induced Breakthrough Nausea and Vomiting by Clinical Pharmacists

Objective: To investigate the types of nausea and vomiting induced by chemotherapy in children, the selection of initial antiemetic regimen, and the drug selection and medication monitoring for breakthrough vomiting and refractory vomiting through the practice of treatment for a child with chemotherapy-induced breakthrough nausea and vomiting by clinical pharmacists. Methods: Clinical pharmacists discussed the medical records with clinicians, assisted in the formulation of treatment regimen, and paid attention to the implementation process. Results: Combined with the consultation of clinical pharmacists, the nausea and vomiting symptoms of the child were alleviated after the adjustment of treatment regimen, and the child was discharged with better physical condition. Conclusion: Clinical pharmacists participate into the whole process of clinical treatment, find comprehensive information and assist clinicians in adjusting medication regimen, which is conducive to play the role of clinical pharmacists in the treatment team.
