Abstract:This report describes an immunoradiometric assay for Plasmodium falciparum in infected blood, based on a cross-reacting monoclonal antibody (mAb) raised against P. berghei. In this assay, binding of the mAb to intact P. berghei parasites coated on microtiter plates is inhibited by solubilized P. falciparum infected red blood cells. The use of P. berghei parasites in conjunction with monoclonal antibodies should facilitate the development of an inexpensive and reproducible test for the immunodiagnosis of malaria.
Keywords:monoclonal antibody  immunodiagnosis
