The value of video electroencephalogra on severe viral encephalitis with status epilepticus in child

Objective To explore the clinical application value of video electroencephalogram(VEEG)on severe viral en?cephalitis with status epilepticus in child epilepticus.Methods A retrospective analysis of 94 children with severe viral encephalitis and status epilepticus(SE)admitted to the Intensive Care Unit of the Department of Internal Medicine of Henan Children’s Hospital/Zhengzhou Children’s Hospital from March 2017 to July 2020,and analyzed their clinical data and video EEG result.Results Among 94 cases,40 cases(42.5%)were aged 0-1 years old,9 cases died(22.5%);14 cases(14.9%)were aged 1-3 years old,4 cases died(21.1%);21 cases were aged 3-6 years old(22.3%),4 cases died(19.0%);19 cases(20.2%)were aged ever 6 years old,5 cases died(26.3%).The incidence of SE was highest in the<1 year old group,but the fatality rate of each age group had no difference.Among 94 cases,65 cases were in the CSE group and 17 cases died;29 cases were in the NCSE group,and 9 cases died.There was no statistical difference in mortality between CSE and NCSE groups(P=0.911).VEEG results:The background activity of EEG was diffuse slow wave and/or localized slow wave in 88 cases,alternating pattern in 3 cases,and low voltage in 2 case;39 cases of intermit?tent epileptiform discharge were recorded.Conclusion VEEG monitoring is important for the evaluation of brain function in severe vi?ral encephalitis with status epilepticus in children.
