Laparoscopic body or tail pancreatectomy to treat benign pancreatic tumors

Objective To investigate the methods and feasibility of laparoscopic body or tail pancreatectomy（LBTP） in the treatment of pancreatic tumors. Methods From Nov. 2009 to May 2010,3 cases of neoplasms in the distal region of the pancreas were treated by LBTP（2 with splenecto- my and 1 without splenectomy）in our department. Results All of the operations were completed successfully using hand assisted laparoscopy with average operation time of 120 min（range： 75-185 min） and mean intraoperative blood loss of 136 ml（range： 90-210 ml）. There were no postoperative complications in all patients. The symptoms disappeared without recurrence after operation during the followup period. Conclusion LBTP with or without preservation of the spleen is safe and feasible for the management of benign tumor in the body and tail of pancreas.
