The diagnosis and treatment of solid pseudopapillary tumor of the pancreas:A report of 6 cases

Objective To discuss the diagnosis and treatment of the solid pseudopapillary tumor of the pancreas（SPTP）. Methods Six consecutive cases operated at our hospital from Aug. 2008 to Apr, 2010 were reviewed. Results They were 17 to 31 years old with an average of 21.8. The maxi- mal dimension of tumor ranged from 6. 6 cm to 13. 0 cm,average 8. 2 crn. Those tumors originated from pancreatic head（2 cases）,and body or tail（4 cases）. Abdominal B-ultrasound or CT scan examination disclosed pancreatic solid-cystic mass in 4 cases,and solid tumor in two. All tumors were resected com- pletely and diagnosed pathologically. Five patients underwent conservative open operations, including pancreaticoduodenectomy（2 cases）, spleen-preserving distal pancreatectomy （2 cases）, and distal pan- createctomy plus splenectomy（ 1 case）. Distal pancreatectomy plus splenectomy was performed by laparoscopy. Conclusion The young females are more likely suffered from the SPTP than others. SPTP usually has a clear boundary and large volume. Both abdominal B-ultrasound and CT scan exam are important diagnostic methods, and the resectable rate is high, furthermore, it is possible to perform a pan- creaticoduodenectomy or distal pancreatectomy with organ-preserving surgical treatment.
