Abstract: | Objective To explore the characteristics of resting energy expenditure (REE) in maintenance hemodialysis (MHD) patients. Methods Fifty end-stage kidney disease (ESRD) patients who accepted MHD were collected. REE was measured by indirect calorimetry and compared with prediction equations from Harris Benedict. Agreement between indirect calorimetry and prediction equations was assessed following spearman correlation, paired t-test, and the percentage of individual coincidence. Results Measured REE in patients was (6 120 -- 1 670) kJ/day, and estimated REE in healthy people was (5 877 ± 686) kJ/day, with no significant difference (P〉0. 05). However, the individual coincidence was poor (36%). Conclusions There is no significant difference in REE between MHD patients and healthy people, but the individual bias is significant. |
