Art therapy:a meta-analysis of the effect of anxiety and depression in patients with breast cancer

Objective To evaluate the effect of art therapy in breast cancer patients who having anxiety and depression.Methods It was a clinical randomised controlled study.Articles about art therapy of anxiety and depression in patients with breast cancer were retrieved from the databases of PubMed,Embase,Webofscience,Scopus,Cochranelibrary,Googlescholar and the Chinese language databases including VIP,Chinese Biomedical,CNKI,and Wanfang.The quality of the retrieved papers was assessed according to the Cochrane Handbook for Systematic Reviews.RevMan 5.3 software was used in meta-analysis.Results A total of 12 clinical randomised controlled studies with 905 breast cancer patients were included in this study,of which 451 patients were in the art therapy group and 454 in the control group.Meta-analysis showed that the anxiety in the art therapy group was significantly lower than that of the control group[MD=-7.040,95%CI(-9.50,-4.58),(P<0.0001)],while the depression in the art therapy group was significantly better than that of the control group[MD=-4.680,95%CI(-7.02,-2.34),(P<0.0001)].Conclusion The art therapy improves the anxiety and depression in patients with breast cancer.
