Abstract:
This is the first of three papers dealing with restrictive practices legislation and its impact in general practice pharmacy on the sale of medicines. This first paper describes past legislation and how the state has approached the complex issue of monopoly. Part II will examine the interpretation of the legislation as exemplified by cases relevant to pharmacy. The final paper will discuss the implications of the legislation from which the role of general practice pharmacy in medicine distribution can be forecast.
