Abstract: | Recoveries of Clostridium difficile from stool specimens by using three media, cycloserine-mannitol agar (M-CMA), cycloserine-mannitol-blood agar (M-CMBA), and cycloserine-cefoxitin agar (M-CCA), were compared. Of 321 clinical specimens, 37 yielded C. difficile. Thirty-four were positive on M-CCA, 21 were positive on M-CMA, and 20 were positive on M-CMBA. M-CCA recovered significantly more C. difficile than did M-CMBA or M-CMA. |
