INFLUENCE OF SODIUM PHOSPHATE ON GERMICIDAL EFFECT OF SODIUM DICHLOROISOCYANURATE |

Abstract: | ![]() The germicidal effects and stability of sodium dichloroisocyanurate (DCC) and three kinds of germicidal detergent prepared from DCC and sodium phosphate (Na_3PO_4) were compared in laboratory. The test organism used was Bacillus subtilis var. niger. By qualitative and quantitative germicidal tests and capacity test (Kelsey-Sykes test), it was found that the sporicidal activity of DCC decreased significantly after addition of sodium phosphate and the results of the three germicidal detergents were quite uniform. The results of qualitative and quantitative tests indicated that DCC solution containing 500 mg/L available chlorine could kill spores after contact for 8~10 min, while a solution containing 800 mg/L available chlorine with a 8 min contact time was required for killing spores when sodium phosphate was added. The results of capacity test indicated that DCC solution containing 9000mg/L available chlorine could fulfil the hygienic requirement, while a solution containing 18000mg/L available chlorine was required to fulfil the hygienic requirement after addition of sodium phosphate. Change in concentration of available chlorine was not observed when DCC solution(containing 8998 mg/L available chlorine)was allowed to stand for 6 hr under room temperature, but after addition of sodium phosphate, the concentration of available chlorine decreased by 18.00~66.13% under the same condition. |
