The treatment of cryptorchidism is medical and operative. In Germany, 400–2,000 boys per year suffer from intra-abdominal testis. Testicular autotransplantation or the Fowler-Stephens maneuver can be performed. Both are associated with ischemia and reperfusion. The prevention of their resultant phenomena, i.e. due preconditioning, is at the center of experimental work. This might provide a chance to find the best treatment for cryptorchidism.
