| Abstract: | Streptococcus suis is a zoonotic pathogen which causes meningitis, arthritis and septicaemia in pigs, and rarely meningitis or septicaemia in humans. This organism has recently been isolated from pigs in New Zealand, where it appears to be widely distributed in pig herds. This case is the first report of human infection in New Zealand. |
