| Abstract: | Tropanone was totally synthesized from cycloheptatriene in five steps. 2-Cyano-2-tropene was prepared by reaction of 7-cyano-1,3,5-cycloheptatriene with 25% of methylamine solution in alcohol. By partially acidic hydrolysis, it was directly converted into 2-carbamido-2-tropene, which was degraded with a fresh prepared basic sodium hypochlorite solution via Hofmann rearrangement to give 2-tropanone. The overall yield was 40%. |
