Abstract: | ![]() Infection of E. coli by the spherical bacteriophage R17 was found to be similar to that by the tail-bearing bacteriophages. By means of the technique of Hershey and Chase (1952), the coat protein was found to be sensitive to shear while the viability and the nucleic acid remained insensitive and associated with the host. |
