Contrast Analysis on Life Quality of Hyperthermic Intra Vesical Chemotherapy and Instillation Therapy

Objective To compare the quality of life between hyperthermic intravesical chemotherapy(HIVEC)and regular instillation therapy.Methods Quality of life was measured using European Organization for Research and Treatment of Cancer Quality of Life Questionnaire-Core 30 version 3.0 and 24-item non-muscle-invasive bladder cancer(NMIBC)module.A total of 132 patients of intermediate-high risk NMIBC were surveyed and both questionnaires were administered before transurethral resection of bladder tumor(TURBT)and after induction of intravesical therapy.Results Both groups experienced decreased scores of social functioning and increased scores of symptoms of pain,urinary and intravesical treatment issues.In HIVEC group,the emotional functioning and future worries were significantly improved,but the financial difficulties were significantly increased.The comparison between the two groups before and after instillation showed that patients who prone to insomnia,future worries and those with low scores in the field of emotional function or global health status were more inclined to HIVEC,while HIVEC was worse in the areas of pain,insomnia,economic difficulties and urinary symptoms than regular instillation therapy.Conclusion Different ways of induction of intravesical therapy could decline the QOL of the patients and appropriate treatments should be given according to the individual requirements.
