Nerve Block Combined Antiviral Drugs for the Treatment of Herpes Zoster Neuralgia at Early Stage

Objective]To observe the efficacy of nerve block combined with antiviral drugs for the treatment of herpes zoster neuralgia at early stage. Methods] Sixty four patients with acute postherpetic neuralgia （PHN） for 1-2 weeks were chosen and divided randomly into antiviral drug treatment group（group A） and nerve block combined with antiviral drug treatment group（group B） with 32 cases in each. Visual analogue scale（VAS） score of all the cases were evaluated before and after treatment once a week for 12 weeks in order to understand the status of sleep and pain and the incidence of PHN. Results] Compared with before treatment, VAS scores in two groups after treatment decreased significantly（ P〈0.05）. VAS scores in group B at 2 and 4 weeks after treatment were obviously lower than those in group A（ P〈0.05）. During the follow up for 12 weeks after the recovery of skin damage, the incidence of PHN in group B was remarkably lower than that in group A（ P〈0.05）. Conclusion] Nerve block combined with antiviral drugs for the treatment of acute PHN has notable analgesia effect, and its early use is helpful for reducing the incidence of PHN.
