Effect of nursing intervention on patients with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease

Objective To investigate the effect of nursing intervention on chronic obstructive pulmonary disease(COPD).Methods Sixty patients with COPD in our hospital from October 2008 to August 2010 were randomly allocated into the control group and the intervention group.The subjects in the control group(30 patients) received routine care,while that in the intervention group(30 patients) underwent systematic nursing interventions.The two groups were observed for changes in arterial blood gas analysis,length of stay,hospitalization costs,the understanding of COPD and the satisfaction with quality of care.HAMD depression scale and HAMA anxiety scale were used to assess the situation of depression and anxiety in patients.Results The change in PaO2,PaCO2,length of stay,hospitalization costs,the understanding of COPD and nursing satisfaction in the intervention group were significantly higher than that in the control group(P<0.05).HAMD and HAMA scores in the intervention group were significantly lower than that in the control group(P<0.05).Conclusion Nursing intervention can ameliorate clinical symptoms,relieve negative psychological emotions such as anxiety and depression,and reduce the length of hospital stay and hospitalization costs,which worth to be extended in clinical practice.
