Abstract: | Hydatid cysts are rarely located in the brain (1 to 3% of all cases), and these are even more rarely in calcified form. We report one case of a 20-year-old woman. She had undergone surgery for a pulmonary hydatid cyst at the age of four years. She had been subject to general epileptic seizures refractory to standard anticonvulsive drugs for the past four years. Cerebral computed tomography showed calcification in the left occipital region. A calcified hydatid cyst was discovered and removed during surgery. Subsequent course has been good and the epileptic seizures have disappeared. A calcified hydatid cyst in the brain is very rare and presents diagnostic and therapeutic problems. |
