The impact of expectant management of early-onset severe preeclampsia on pregnancy outcomes

Objective： To evaluate the impact of expectant management of early-onset severe preeclampsia on pregnancy outcomes.Methods： This prospective,observational study included 141 patients with early-onset severe preeclampsia.They were classified into three groups according to gestational age on admission.Group A included 37 patients with gestational age less than 28 weeks.Group B（28 to 〈32 weeks） included 42 patients and group C（32-34 weeks） included 62 patients.Results： The median overall prolongation of gestation was 114 6 days for all patients. The rate of neonatal mortality significantly de- creased with the extension of gestational age （P〈0.05）. The rate of maternal complication in group A was significantly higher than that in group B and group C （P〈0.05） indicating it was higher among those with less gestational weeks, but there was no significant difference in maternal complication rates betweengroup B and group C （P〉0.05）. Conclusion： The early-onset severe preeclampsia could adversely affect the pregnancy outcomes, which could be improved by expectant management under the intensive care.
