Epidemic of fatal estivo-autumnal malaria: Among drug addicts in New York City transmitted by common use of hypodermic syringe

The epidemiological, clinical and pathological findings in an epidemic of fatal estivo-autumnal malaria of the cerebral type occurring in drug addicts in New York City are reported. The disease was directly transmitted from addict to addict as a result of the common practice of sharing the use of unsterilized hypodermic syringes for intravenous injections of heroin.
