Abstract:
A bovine submaxillary gland extract was altered by chemical and enzymatic methods. The effect of these alterations were investigated on the formation of calculus, in vitro, by a dipping method; and on the calcium binding capacity of the altered extract. The results indicate that alterations affecting the carboxyl function exerted the greatest inhibition of deposit formation, with the same pattern noted in calcium binding.
