Preliminary Study on MRI Diffusion-Weighted Imaging of Liver Fibrosis

Abstract:
Objective To evaluate diagnostic value of diffusion-weighted MRI for hepatic fibrosis.Methods Apparent diffusion coefficient(ADC)values of 54 patients with liver fibrosis proved by liver biopsy were measured by diffusion-weighted imaging when the b values were 300,500,700s/mm2 respectively.The change of ADC value in a group was compared with other groups,and it was also compared with corresponding pathological change as a control study.Results When b value was 500 and 700s/mm2,with liver fibrosis stage increasing,ADC values were gradually reduced,and a good negative correlation(P <0.01)appeared between ADC values and liver fibrosis stage;While the b value was 300s/mm2,good correlation between ADC values and liver fibrosis stage was not showed(P> 0.05).By group comparison,S0-S3 stage could be distinguished with S4 stage by ADC values when b value was 300s/mm2;when b value was 500s/mm2,S0 could be distinguished with S2 and S4 respectively,and S1 could be distinguished with S2;when b value was 700s/mm2,S0,S1 could be distinguished with S2,S3 and S4 respectively.Conclusion In case of choosing a suitable b-value,it is an effective imaging diagnostic method to measure ADC values by MRI diffusion-weighted imaging for the detection of liver fibrosis and early cirrhosis.
