Abstract: | Adequate antihypertensive therapy will lower blood pressure to normotensive or near normotensive levels in 80-85% of patients. Long-term treatment results in a marked decrease in strokes and stroke recurrence, heart failure, renal failure, and progression to accelerated hypertension. The effects of long-term therapy on the occurrence of coronary artery disease are unclear. |
