Levels of serum and urinary Tamm-Horsfall protein(THP)were determimed in 12 cases of renal disease and were compared with normal controls.Serum THPwere normal in 41 cases (97.6%) and elevated in only one case. But urinary levels of THP were normal in 47.6%, slightly elevated in 11.9%, moderately elevated in 4.8%, significantly elevated in 35.7%. Neither significant differences of urinary THP between different types of kidney disease, nor correlations between the clinical course and levels of urinary elevels of THP. In nephrotia syndrome patients w-ith frequent relapses w/jre significantly higher than intial onset. Urinary excretion of THP in patients with these during idopathic hypercalcinuria was significantly increased. Urinary excretion of THP was not correlated with serum creatinine in cases of virus nephritis, recurrent hematuria,urinary tract infection, aaaphylactoid purpura nephritis. But urinary increase of excretion of THP may be an indicator of renal tubular damage |
