Abstract:
Objective To study the relationships among Tie-2, glioma angiogenesis and clinical pathological features. Methods The expressions of Tie-2 and CD34 protein in 42 samples of human gliomas were detected by immunohistochemical technique. The microvascular density was determined in the tumors. Results The expression of Tie-2 was mainly located in the vascular endothelial cells, and rare in glioma cells. Tie-2 was significantly correlated with histopathological grade and MVD of the gliomas (P<0.01), but it was not related with the sex and age of the patients, and the size of the tumors. Conclusions Our observations suggest that tie-2 may play an important role in modulating angiogenesis and malignant development of glioma, and it perhaps may be used for evaluating the tumor malignance degree and prognosis in the patients with gliomas.
