A Comparison of the Urbanization Practice between Zhang Jian and Zhang Zhidong

In the early urbanization process of modern China,Nantong and Wuhan,which were respectively managed by Zhang Jian and Zhang Zhidong,won praise from the media at home and abroad with Nantong remarked as China's ideal cultural city and Wuhan as the oriental Chicago.Although Zhang Jian and Zhang Zhidong were different in social status,objective conditions,and ways to develop industry,they made outstanding achievements in the industrialization of Nantong and Wuhan.Zhang Jian and Zhong Zhidong were the forerunners of industrialization and urbanization in modern China,and they made great contributions to the urbanization and modernization of Nantong and Wuhan,enabling the two cities to become the models among the cities in modern China.
