Research progress on coxsackievirus B3 vaccine

Coxsackievirus B3（CVB3）is a member of the human enterovirus（HEVs）（family Picornaviridae,genus Human enterovirus）.CVB3 is the common agent of myocarditis,pancreatitis and central nervous system infections.Over the past few years,there have been many reports about CVB3 epidemiology.However,there are no widely accepted CVB3 genotyping and nomenclature available by far.Most reports on CVB3 vaccine were attenuated vaccine based on the two regions of the CVB3 genome,5′UTR and P1 region,in which attenuating mutations have been identified.The attenuated vaccine can protect animals from wild CVB3 strain challenges.Neutralizing antibody could be detected after inoculation of subunit and inactivated vaccines.However,many challenges are still in research and development stage and many issues need to be solved such as safety of attenuated vaccine,genetic stability of site-associated capsid stability and tissue tropism,cross protection among different CVB3 genotypes,animal model for vaccine evaluation,polyvalent vaccines and so on.
