Effects of Okra on platelet function in chronic glomerulonephritis

Objective To investigate the effects of Okra capsule on platelet function in patients with chronic glomerulonephritis（CGN）. Methods Sixty patients with CGN were randomly divided into control group（30 cases,traditional therapy） and treatment group（30 cases, traditional therapy in combination with Okra capsule）. Blood 11-dehydro-thromboxane B2 （11-DH-TXB2） levels were determined in all patients before and 8 weeks after the treatment,and 20 healthy persons served as normal control group. Results The blood 11-DH-TXB2 levels before treatment in both the treatment group and con- trol group were higher than in the normal control group（P〈0. 01）. Eight weeks after the treatment, blood 11-DH-TXB2 levels were reduced obviously in the treatment group（P〈0. 05）, but Still higher than in the normal control group（P〈0. 01）. There was no significant change before and after treatment in control group（P〈0. 05）. Conclusions The platelet activation existed in CGN in vivo,which could be inhibited by Okra capsule.
