Abstract:
Sixty-seven cases of primary squamous cell carcinoma of the vagina were treated between 1956 and 1975. Irradiation was the principal mode of therapy and overall 5-year survival was 38.8%. Lesions involving the lower vagina had a propensity for metastasis, particularly to the inguinofemoral nodes. Radical surgery is suggested for selected cases with lesions of the upper third or the posterior wall of the vagina with removal of the inguinofemoral nodes where appropriate.
