Most patients recovering from surgery or serious wounds have not been given enough analgesics to control their discomfort, resulting in longer than necessary hospital stays and recoveries, according to the U.S. Departn1ent of Health and Human Services (HHS). In its first of a series of national guidelines for health care expected out in the next two years, HHS is recommending ways health practitioners can more effectively control pain after surgery.
