Research progress of scaling and root planing combined with Er:YAG laser and Nd:YAG laser in the treatment of periodontitis

Periodontitis is a chronic inflammatory disease that occurs in the periodontal supporting tissue,which is characterized by progressive destruction of periodontal supporting tissue.It is one of the most common oral diseases.Scaling and root planing(SRP)is the most important and effective non-surgical treatment method for periodontitis,but it also has many deficiencies,such as difficult to remove the dental calculus and plaque of deep periodontal pocket,some narrow root bifurcation area.In recent years,many auxiliary treatment methods have appeared one after another.Laser is widely used in the auxiliary treatment of periodontitis.At present,Er:YAG laser and Nd:YAG laser are commonly used in clinic.Er:YAG laser can act on both soft and hard tissues,and can effectively remove dental calculus with less thermal damage;Nd:YAG laser can not effectively remove dental calculus,and may cause thermal damage,but it has strong bactericidal,hemostatic and analgesic effects.This article combined with the relevent literature at homt and abroad reviews the research progress of SRP combined with Er:YAG laser and Nd:YAG laser in the treatment of periodontitis,in order to provide reference for the clinical treatment of periodontitis.
