Urine bacterial culture and suscceptibility tests in diabetics with urinary tract infection:An analysis of 97 cases

Objective To study the effect of urine bacteria culture and susceptibility tests in diabetics with urinary tract infection so as to give guidance of rational use of antibiotics in clinic.Methods 97 cases of diabetic patients with urinary tract infection from 2008 to 2010 underwent urine culture and sensitivity tests.Results The positive rate of the Gram-negative bacilli was 72.4%,of which Escherichia coli was 61.2%;The positive rate of Gram-positive cocci was 22.5%,of which Enterococcus faecalis accounted for 10.2%,and 5.1% were yeast-like fungi.The drug sensitive test result indicated that Gram-negative bacilli had a low drug-resistance rate to imipenem and cefoperazone,while vancomycin was most sensitive to Gram-positive cocci.Conclusion Mid-segment urine culture and susceptibility test should be taken before treatment and antimicrobial therapy should be adjusted reasonably according to the results of susceptibility test.
