Comparison of the effects of cranioplasty with different repair materials in the treatment of skull defect

Objective To compare the effects of cranioplasty with silica gel,titanium plate and autogenous skull in the treatment of skull defect.Methods According to different repair materials,229 patients with skull defect were divided into group A(n=17,silica gel),group B(n=58,titanium plate)and group C(n=154,autologous skull).The therapeutic effects of the three groups were compared.Results The total incidences of postoperative complications in the group B and group C were significantly lower than those in the group A(P<0.05).There were no significant differences in KPS and NIHSS scores among the three groups before operation and at 1 and 3 months after operation(P>0.05).After 3 months of follow-up,the total score of patients'satisfaction to postoperative shaping in the group C was significantly higher than that in the group A and the group B(P<0.05).Conclusion Cranioplasty with autogenous skull for repairing skull defect has less postoperative complications and higher patients'satisfaction to postoperative shaping.
