Abstract:
Th17 cells are a distinct lineage of proinflammatory CD4+ T helper cells. Researches have demonstrated that these cells could express various kinds of cytokines,such as IL-17A,IL-17F,IL-17C,IL-22,IL-26 and interferon-γ. IL-17 and IL-22 play an important role in resisting pathogens especially pulmonary Gram-negative bacteria. They could promote the defensins release and regulate the generation of multiple cytokines, such as IL-8, chemotatic factor CXC and granulocyte colony-stimulating factor(G-CSF). Therefore,they can augment neutrophil infiltration in the sites of infection. In addition, IL-22 increased lung epithelial cell proliferation and transepithelial resistance to injury. Moreover, the anti-infection effects of these two cytokines are synergistic and in feedback manner, which are important in the clearamce of pathogens and the maintenance of lung homeostasis.
