Study on ultrasonic classification of normal female breast

Objective To study the parenchymal pattern of normal breast in Chinese female, and to compare the parenchymal variation with ages. Methods Breast sonography of 7532 cases of healthy women were enrolled in this study. Features in mammary duet and its interstitial contents were also included in the study, the correlation between ultrasonic classification and age was analyzed. Results The breast parenchyma pattern were divided into glandular type, dense type, mixed type and heterogeneous type. Mixed type occupied 56.05% , dense type occupied 26.61% , heterogeneous type occupied 12.02% , and glandular type occupied 5.32%. Most young women had glandular parenchyma, most middle aged young women had mixed type of parenchyma, heterogeneous parenchyma was more common in old aged patients, and dense parenchyma was more common in middle old aged female. Conclusion Ultrasound is a key diagnostic tool in diagnosing and classifying breast lesions.
