Abstract: | Spontaneously hypertensive rats (SHR) showed lower brain ANP binding density when compared with normotensive Wistar-Kyoto (WKY) rats. In the WKY, angiotensin converting enzyme inhibitor, enalapril (25 mg/kg, p.o. for 14 days), decreased the number of ANP binding sites selectively in the subfornical organ and area postrema. Conversely, enalapril increased ANP binding density in the SHR, but only in the area postrema. Enalapril has central effects on ANP binding sites, specific to the circumventricular organs. |
