Abstract:Objective To guide applicants to understand the basic research direction of diabetes, by analyzing the funding status of the National Natural Science Foundation of China (NSFC) on diabetes and complications in the 2015-2019 year. Methods We retrieved the NSFC 2015-2019 sponsored projects in the three disciplines of Chinese Medicine H27, Chinese Pharmacy H28, and Integrative Chinese and Western Medicine H29, and extracted the application code, project type, project name, funded amount, approval year, person in charge and supporting unit, etc. The information was entered into EXCEL, and the quantitative analysis method was used to analyze the funding situation, the supporting unit, the situation of the project leader, the distribution of research directions, and the distribution of the disease spectrum. Manual extraction was carried out for subject words. Statistics were carried out through the BDP data platform and word cloud analysis was performed on the extracted subject words. Results A total of 374 target items were retrieved. Three subjects were funded during the period, and the total amount of subsidy was on the rise. The project was supported by Chinese medicine universities and research institutes. The main cause of diabetic complications was nephropathy. The research direction of Chinese medicine was focused on the mechanism of action, mainly around signal transduction, autophagy, non-encoding RNA, intestinal flora, mitochondria and other hot spots. The discipline of traditional Chinese medicine focused on the action mechanism and material basis, mainly focusing on the hot spots such as signal pathway, insulin resistance, intestinal flora, autophagy and metabolomics. The discipline of integrated traditional Chinese and Western medicine focused on the action mechanism, mainly focusing on signal pathway, glucose metabolism, autophagy, non-coding RNA, intestinal flora inflammation and other hot spots. Conclusion Diabetes and complications are a major disease category. TCM intervention has the advantage. Starting from the clinical practical needs, closely studying the frontier, using new technologies and new methods to carry out research is the focus of funding of the National Natural Science Foundation in recent years.
