Wang Xing-kuan's Experience of Treating Gout

Professor Wang Xing-kuan believes that the disease of gout is located in muscles,bones and joints,which has the syndrome of deficient root cause and excessive manifestations.Deficiency of liver and kidney is the root cause,while dampness-heat and blood stasis and toxin blocking in meridians,fascia and bones are manifestations.It is treated by tonifying the liver and kidney,clearing heat and draining dampness and removing toxin,supplemented by nourishing qi and blood,removing phlegm and resolving blood stasis,especially the application of unblocking method.Professor Wang uses Supplemented Six-Ingredient Rehmannia Decoction to tonify the liver and kidney,Wonderfully Effective Four Powder plus Huzhang(Rhizoma Polygoni Cuspidati)and Rendongteng(Caulis Lonicerae Japonicae)to clear away heat,drain dampness and remove toxin,Astragalus Four Substances Decoction to replenish qi and blood.Professor Wang also often uses products for removing phlegm and resolving blood stasis,such as Baijiezi(Semen Sinapis),Dannanxing(Rhizoma Arisaematis cum Bile)or combined with Zhimi Poria Pill(指迷茯苓丸,ZMPP).The commonly used drugs for promoting joints are as follows:(1)Branches category:Sangzhi(Ramulus Mori)and Guizhi(Ramulus Cinnamomi).(2)Rattan category:Jixueteng(Caulis Spatholobi),Luoshiteng(Caulis Trachelospermi),Rendongteng(Caulis Lonicerae Japonicae)and Antongteng(Cissusassamica Gaib).(3)Collaterals category:Sigualuo(Retinervus Luffae Fructus),Juluo(Vascular Aurantii)and Heyeluo(Folium Nelumbinis).(4)Insects category:Dilong(Pheretima),Quanxie(Scorpio),Wushaoshe(Zaocys)and Tubiechong(Eupolyphaga seu Steleophaga).Professor Wang also believes that insect drugs are needed for chronic arthralgia and persistent diseases,but it should be noted that insect drugs have strong search and picking power.If the patient has the deficiency of healthy qi or gastrointestinal diseases,they should be used with caution.
