Abstract: | Summary Mitochondrial DNA from the aquatic fungus Blastocladiella emersonii Cantino and Hyatt has been isolated and characterized. By restriction enzyme analysis the size of the mitochondrial genome was found to be 35.5 kb pairs. A restriction site map was constructed using the cleavage data for 6 endonucleases which showed the mitochondrial genome to be circular. The genes for the small and large ribosomal RNA, the ATPase subunits 6 and 9, the cytochrome c oxidase subunits 1, 2, and 3, and the apocytochrome b were located in the mitochonridal genome of B. emersonii by hybridizations with mitochondrial DNA probes from Saccharomyces cerevisiae and Neurospora crassa |
