Effect of Massage on the Function of Foot-Yangming Meridian-Muscle in Patients with Knee Osteoarthritis

Objective:To observe the effect of massage on the function of Foot-Yangming meridian-muscle in patients with knee osteoarthritis(KOA),so as to provide the basis for the prevention and treatment of KOA by"meridian theory".Methods:According to the random number table method,75 patients with KOA were divided into three groups:simple quadriceps functional exercise group(n=25),oral anti-inflammatory analgesic+functional exercise group(n=25),massage treatment+functional exercise group(n=25).Kellgren Lawrence(K-L)X-ray grading was used to grade the three groups of patients with KOA.The treatment period was 2 weeks.The Western Ontario and McMaster Universities Osteoarthritis Index(WOMAC)score,Lequesne index score,gait analysis and quadriceps muscle tension were compared before and after treatment.Results:After treatment,WOMAC score,Lequesne index score,gait parameters and quadriceps muscle tension of the three groups were significantly improved,and the differences were statistically significant(P<0.05).There were significant differences in WOMAC score,Lequesne index score,gait parameters and quadriceps muscle tension between oral anti-inflammatory and analgesic drugs+functional exercise group and massage treatment+functional exercise group after treatment(P<0.05).There were significant differences in gait parameters and quadriceps muscle tension between massage treatment+functional exercise group and oral anti-inflammatory analgesic+functional exercise group(P<0.05).Conclusion:Massage manipulation has a significant effect in the treatment of KOA patients,which can be mainly used to improve the quadriceps muscle tension,relieve pain and improve joint function.
