The changes of Reproductive Hormone Levels in patients with varicocele associated with prostatitis

Objectives To investigate the possible role reproductive hormones plays in the pathophysiology of varicocele associated with chronic prostatitis after observation on the difference of reproductive hormones , including LH , PRL and T , in the cases with varicocele and varicocele associated with chronic prostatitis. Methods Reproductive hormones of 148 varicocele associated with chronic prostatitis cases including 56 left varicocele associated with prostatitis cases and 92 bilateral varicocele associated with prostatitis cases were detected by using time-resolved fluorescent immunoassay , and 148 varicoceled patients including 56 left varicocele cases and 92 bilateral varicocele cases as controls. Results The plasma T levels in left varicocele associated with prostatitis group is lower than that in control group( p <0.01 ) , the plasma LH levels in left varicocele associated with prostatitis group is higher than that in control group( p <0.01) , but the plasma PRL levels had no significant difference between them . The plasma T levels in bilateral varicocele associated with prostatitis group is higher than that in control group( p < 0.01) , the plasma PRL levels in bilateral varicocele associated with prostatitis group is lower than that in control group ( p <0.01) , but the plasma LH levels had no significant difference between them . The levels of T in the left varicocele group was higher than that in the bilateral varicocele group( p <0.01 ). The levels of LH in the left varicocele group was lower than that in the bilateral varicocele group ( p < 0.05 ). There was no significant difference between the left varicocele group and bilateral varicocele group in the levels of PRL. Conclusions The changes of reproductive hormone levels was related closely to the varicocele and chronic prostatitis , but its needed to furhtur investigate in the specific pathogenesis.
