Seroepidemiology survey of Toxoplasma gondii infection in hospitalized patients in Peking Union Medical College Hospital during 2008-2010

Objective To investigate the status of Toxoplasma gondii infection in hospitalized patients in Peking Union Medical College Hospital.Methods Samples of outpatients and inpatients during 2008-1010 were collected.Enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay(ELISA)was used to detect anti-Toxoplasma antibody IgG.The positive rate of IgG antibody of inpatients was analyzed according to the department and diseases. Results The positive rates of anti-Toxoplasma antibody of inpatients and outpatients were 2.22%and 1.01% respectively.The positive rates of male and female in-patient were 1.79%and 2.46%.The positive rates of male and female out-patient were 0.83%and 1.13%.The difference was significant between inpatients and outpatients(P<0.01).The positive rates of department of immunology,cardiology,intensive care unit (ICU),general internal medicine,neurology,urology and emergency were 6.55%,5.13%,5.08%,3.72%,3.83%,2.56%and 2.11%,respectively.It was significantly different between the experiment group and the control group(1.01%)(P<0.05).The positive mtes were higher in some diseases such as the human acquired immunodeficient syndrome(AIDS),systemic lupus erythematosus(SLE),immunologic disease,cerebrovascular disease,abortion,the disease of the nervous system and the unclear reason gives off fever with the positive rates of 25.00%,14.49%,9.47%,5.13%,5.06%,3.83%,3.42%.Conclusion The positive rate of anti-Toxoplasma antibody in hospitalized patient was higher than that in the outpatients.It indicated that much attention shoed be paid to the inpatients for the hish risk of Toxoplasma infection.
